How are contract workspace IDs assigned?
How do I control the order of contract workspace ID numbers?
Is it possible to have the system-generated contract workspace IDs increase sequentially?
SAP Ariba doesn't support a user-defined sequence for contract workspace numbering.
The contracts application uses an auto-generated counter value to track and assign workspace IDs. Since this counter's value is defined and controlled by the application, it's not possible to specify the starting number or how it increments.
When you create a new template or workspace, the system uses the current value of the counter to assign the numerical component of the template or workspace ID. Once assigned, this ID stays the same for the lifetime of the template or workspace.
However, since it's also used to manage template and workspace versioning, any of the following actions increment the counter:
As a result, even though workspace and template IDs don't change in the user interface, the counter is perpetually incrementing in the background as new document versions are created. Thus, if the last workspace you created has the ID CWn, we can't predict if the next workspace you create will have the ID of CWn+1, CWn+5, CWn+20, or something else. It all depends on how many times the counter has been incremented, and and end users can't track or control this activity.
