What are lean services, and how are they supported in SAP Business Network?
Question

What are lean services, or lean-service items, for purchase orders?

And how are lean services in orders supported in SAP Business Network?

Answer

Lean services is a type line item in service orders in SAP Business Network. Lean services simplify the process of procuring services. They can be either Lean Service items for planned lean services or Limit Service items for unplanned lean services.

For example, regular cleaning of office premises can be considered as a lean service. Your company does not need to know the specific details of the regular cleaning process, such as the exact time when the cleaning is done or the details on supplies used per day. In this situation, you will purchase the service item as a lean service.

Lean services items are supported in SAP Business Network for cXML orders by the itemType attribute with value lean for the ItemOut cXML element.

Additional Information

This cXML value lean for attribute itemType in ItemOut element is supported in cXML DTD (Document Type Definition) 1.2.043 and higher. See the cXML Release Notes for the list of recent changes in cXML DTD definition.
