## Symptom

How do I use the substring function in the Managed Gateway for Spend&Network mapping Tool?

## Resolution

The substring function is used when you need to map only a select part of a string. To perform it in the Managed Gateway for Spend&Network mapping tool, follow these steps:

1. Select the source field and map to a desired target field.
2. Right-click on the mapping line and choose **Functions** > **Add Functions** > **Add Substring Function**.
3. Choose the **Substring Start Position** (minimum 1) and the **Substring Length** (the size of the final character).
4. Save the mapping.
