# Why is only English available in my Change Default Locale preferences for a Parent or Child Realm?

## Symptom

When I access **Preferences** > **Change Default Locale** from a Parent or Child Realm, the only available option is English. When I access **Change Default Locale** in a different, non-integrated realm, all language options are available.

## Environment

Integrated realms (Parent/Child realms)

## Reproducing the Issue

1. Sign into a Parent or Child Realm account.
2. Navigate to **Preferences** > **Change Default Locale**.
3. Observe that the only language available to select is English.

## Cause

The selection of available locales is controlled by the Supported Languages setting in the realm profile. For integrated realms, these language settings must be configured on both the Parent realm profile and the Child realm profile for them to appear.

## Resolution

To make additional languages available, you must enable them in the realm profiles.

**Scenario 1: Enable full UI and content translation**

1. In the upstream (Parent) realm profile, check the desired **Supported Languages**.
2. In the downstream (Child) realm profile, check the same desired **Supported Languages**. This action makes the languages selectable in user Preferences and enables full User Interface (UI) translations.

**Scenario 2: Enable content translation only (not UI messages)**

1. In the upstream (Parent) realm profile, ensure the desired **Supported Languages** remain unchecked.
2. In the downstream (Child) realm profile, check the desired **Supported Languages**. This action makes the locale selectable in the user preferences for content purposes, but the UI itself will not be translated.

**NOTE:** Customer Support can do this by editing the site profiles from the Service Manager Administrative tool.
