Symptom

What is the difference between the Groups and All Groups tabs when viewing a user?

Resolution

The Groups tab displays user's direct group assignments, while the All Groups tab shows the user's direct group assignments plus inherited groups.

For example, if you create a custom group called North America Sourcing Manager as a child group of Sourcing Manager, any user assigned to North America Sourcing Manager also inherits the Sourcing Manager group. However, the reverse does not hold true. A user assigned to the Sourcing Manager group does not inherit North America Sourcing Manager.

To determine if a group is inherited:

  1. Go to the User Manager > Groups section.
  2. Search for the parent group (for example, Sourcing Manager).
  3. Access the Child Groups tab.

If there are no groups listed, no custom group inherits the parent group. Otherwise, each group in the list inherits the permissions of the parent group.

Additional Information

If you use Ariba Procurement and Invoicing Solutions, click Manage > Core Administration and run the Export Group/Subgroup Relationships task in the Site Manager > Data Import/Export section for a complete list of the parent-to-child group mappings. If you use only Ariba Strategic Sourcing and Contract Management Solutions, contact Ariba Customer Support to request the output of the Export Group to Child Group Mapping task.
