# How do I create a SBN sub-user and a role with permissions?

## Symptom

How do I create a **SBN (SAP Business Network)** sub-user and a role with permissions to use the account?

## Environment

SAP Business Network

## Resolution

If you are the account administrator, you can add users with the following steps:

To add users to the account, you must create at least one role. You can assign multiple users to the same role or create a separate role for each user.

**To create a role:**

1. In the upper-right corner of the application, click **\[User Initials\] > Settings**.
2. Under **Account Administration** click **Manage Users.**
3. Go to **Manage Roles** tab, click the **\[Plus Sign\]** on the right side.
4. Enter a **Name** for the role.
5. Select the appropriate permissions by checking the relevant boxes.
6. Click **Save**.

**To create a user:**

1. In the upper-right corner of the application, click **\[User Initials\]** > **Settings**
2. Under **Account Administration** click **Manage Users**.
3. On next page click **Manage Users** > click the **\[Plus Sign\]** on the right side of the page right above users list.
4. Enter the user's information (**Username**, **Email Address**, **First Name**, **Last Name**, and **Office Phone**).
5. Select a role in the **Role Assignment section**.
6. Assign a customer (**All customers** or **Select Customers**).
7. Click **Save**.

After you create the user, the user receives an email with the username and a temporary password. The temporary password will be valid for 24 hours. The user must access the account and change the password when logging in for the first time.

If any sub-users were created through a SAP Ariba Sourcing invitation they received from a buyer, you would need to approve them by following the directions below:

1. In the upper-right corner of the application, click **\[User Initials\]** > **Settings**
2. Under **Account Administration** click **Manage Users**.
3. Click **Manage Unapproved Users**.
4. Select the users to approve.
5. Click **Approve**.
6. Click **Save**.

Note: The permissions that are available for you to assign to users depend on whether you have [customer relationships](https://help.sap.com/docs/business-network-for-trading-partners/seller-account-settings-and-profile-configuration/topics-about-customer-relationships?locale=en-US&state=PRODUCTION&version=2511) in your account.
If you created your account via a Sourcing invitation or through the walk-through registration method, you do not yet have any customer relationships. Therefore, order-related and invoice-related rights are not available.

If you have created roles or sub-users and want to change any role or permission, you can follow this guide: [KB0396955 - How do I change a sub user's permissions and role in SAP Business Network?](https://support.ariba.com/item/view/KB0396955)
