What is the SAP Managed Upgrade?
SAP has re-platformed SAP Business Network onto SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) — the same enterprise-grade foundation that powers the rest of the SAP suite. This move unlocks capabilities like AI, automation, real-time analytics, and greater extensibility that simply weren't possible on the previous platform.

SAP Engineering has designed this upgrade to be SAP managed — a minimal effort, near-zero downtime event for you. There is no cost and no contractual change associated with this upgrade.
You continue business as usual while SAP runs the upgrade and validation in the background. All customers will be notified a minimum of 30 days in advance of their scheduled upgrade date.

How Does the SAP Managed Upgrade Work?
SAP will upgrade your test and production environments at the same time on your scheduled upgrade date. You will receive your specific scheduled upgrade date in your 30-day advance notification.
All of your data — transactional and configuration — is migrated by SAP. You do not need to do anything. Your support process after go-live remains unchanged through SAP for Me.

How Am I Selected and What Happens if I Don't Upgrade When Scheduled?
SAP analyzes each customer account based on deployed features, current configurations, and how the platform is being used. From there, customers are grouped into upgrade waves.
A few important things to know about timing:
- SAP will eventually sunset the legacy platform. While that date has not yet been set, upgrading to SAP Business Network on BTP is mandatory for all customers. The goal is for all customers to be upgraded by end of 2026.
- Customers who have not yet upgraded will not have access to new innovations — including AI agents and advanced analytics — which are only available on the new platform.
- SAP Business Network on BTP is also a prerequisite for any future upgrades to SAP Ariba Procurement Applications on BTP.
SAP strongly encourages customers to proceed with their scheduled upgrade wave.
If you have been scheduled and need to request a delay, log a ticket via SAP for Me and include your currently scheduled migration dates, your reason for requesting a delay, and a proposed new timeframe within 2026. SAP will review and, where possible, accommodate.
Do I Need to Upgrade to Be Compliant with E-Invoicing Mandates in France and UAE?
Yes. The functionality required to meet upcoming e-invoicing requirements in France and UAE has been built exclusively on the new BTP platform. These features will be available with the 2605 release and will not be available on the legacy platform.
When you upgrade, your existing e-invoicing localization capabilities will carry over. Learn more about embedded localization capabilities in SAP Business Network for Procurement.
