SAP Business Network on BTP

Upgrade Execution for Buyers

What is Happening?

Businesses today operate in an increasingly complex, global environments. To support this, SAP is modernizing the SAP Business Network by upgrading the platform infrastructure to SAP BTP (Business Technology Platform). All customers will be notified a minimum of 30 days in advance of their scheduled upgrade.

Watch this video to learn more about the upgrade process.

The BTP platform enables innovations that will ensure our customers remain competitive by having access to features such as AI, automation, real-time analytics and extensibility. Watch this quick overview.

SAP Engineering has designed this upgrade to be SAP managed and therefore a minimal effort, near-zero downtime event for customers and there is no cost or contractual change associated with this technology upgrade.

You continue business as usual while the upgrade and validation is done by SAP in the background.

What does 'SAP Managed Upgrade' mean?

Through the end of May 2026 SAP is following a 2-step process. Your 30-day advance notice will provide your scheduled upgrade date.

As the first step, SAP Engineering will upgrade your TEST (-T) instance of Network at the communicated date. You will have a one business week to validate and explore the platform. During this window, you can log a support ticket directly in SAP For Me if you encounter any issues or want to request an extension of your -T window (not guaranteed).

SAP Engineering will repeat the upgrade process for your PRODUCTION instance of Network. This typically occurs over a weekend with the upgraded SAP Business Network on BTP becoming live on a Monday.

  • All customer data, including transactional and configuration data is migrated by SAP Engineering. No action is required by customers in this process.

The customer support process once moved to Production remains unchanged via SAP For Me.

Beyond May 2026, SAP will follow a 1-step process. The -T and PROD instances will be upgraded at the same time on the scheduled upgrade date.

We have assembled Frequently Asked Questions for you.

How am I selected and what happens if I do not upgrade to SAP Business Network on BTP when I am slotted into my wave?

Each customer ANID is analyzed based on deployed functionalities, current configurations, and feature usage at the document level on the current SAP Business Network. From there, qualified customers are batched into upgrade waves.

  • In time, SAP will sunset the legacy Ariba Network. While that date has yet to be scheduled, it is mandatory that all customers upgrade to the SAP Business Network on BTP.
    • The completion goal is end of 2026.
  • Customers who do not upgrade as scheduled will not be able to take advantage of innovations such as Agentic AI, advanced analytics, etc. that are only available on the BTP platform.
  • The SAP Business Network on BTP is a pre-requisite for any future upgrades of SAP Ariba Procurement Applications on BTP.

SAP strongly encourages customers to proceed in their scheduled wave for the reasons stated above.

If you have been slotted and wish request a delay, please log a ticket via SAP For Me and provide your currently scheduled migration dates, reasons for requesting a delay, and proposed new timeframe in 2026. SAP will give consideration and accommodate the change where possible.

Do I have to upgrade to SAP Business Network on BTP to be compliant with upcoming e-invoicing mandates in France and UAE?

Yes. SAP has developed the required functionality to satisfy the upcoming requirements of France and UAE exclusively on the new BTP platform. These features will become available with the 2605 release and will only be available on the upgraded platform.

When upgrading, customers will retain the existing capabilities of e-invoice localization. Learn more about the embedded localization capabilities in SAP Business Network for Procurement here.
