Alternative bidding gives suppliers (participants) the ability to submit alternate bids after they have submitted a primary bid based on a guided sourcing event as you have defined it. You can then select the supplier that best meets your needs.
Alternative bids are not supported in guided sourcing yet which poses a gap in parity between the old UX and guided sourcing.
The new UX with alternative bids in guided sourcing will offer customers a better experience and improve productivity with intelligent functionality.

Your site must have guided sourcing enabled and you must be a member of the Category Buyer group.
You must be the event owner or have project owner capabilities for the event.
To make the Should questions be visible in alternatives? and Should there be a limit on number of alternatives? event rules available, you must enable the following features:
- SSR-393: Show Questions in Alternatives
- SSR-553: Supplier Alternatives: Limit number of Pricing alternatives
This feature is supported in the classic SAP Ariba Sourcing user interface and the guided sourcing user interface.
This feature only supports alternative pricing. Supplier bundles and volume tiers are not supported.
The Is term editable in alternatives? field for a term or question must be set to Editable By Owner and Participant. Otherwise, suppliers cannot provide different values or answers for terms and questions in their alternative responses.
Preconfigured award scenarios Best Bid, Best Bid with Limited Number of Suppliers, and Best Savings do not support awarding alternative bids. If you want to award alternative bids, manually create a scenario.
