Can tasks start automatically?

Yes!

When a task has a predecessor, an additional option exists called Start When Dependencies Complete. It lets the user say whether this task starts immediately after the predecessor completes.

Automatically  starting a task requires that all necessary items for it have values before the auto-workflow begins:

• All approvers, reviewers, signers etc., must have values in the successor tasks.
• All Not Generated and Not Edit documents associated to the successor tasks must have Draft or Published status.
• All documents associated with a successor Signature task must have Published status now.

These tasks do not automatically start unless these criteria are met.

Users can configure this setting at the template level. Users can deselect Start When Dependencies Complete at the workspace level. 

Restarting any predecessor task either reactivates all successor tasks or creates new rounds of them.

If a successor task cannot start for any reason, an email notification goes to the task owner.
