Symptom

How do I create a ZIP (compressed) or RAR file in order to attach multiple documents at once?

Resolution

ZIP and RAR files are useful for compressing larger files when attachment size restrictions exist. The following are the two most common ways to group multiple files into one compressed ZIP or RAR file.

The first option is to select all of the desired files and add them to a new ZIP or RAR file.

  1. Organize the files on your desktop or within a folder.
  2. Select the files, then right-click to open the pull-down menu.
  3. Select your compression program, then create a ZIP or RAR archive.
  4. Click the Add button from the pop-up window, if applicable, to complete the process.

The second option involves creating the ZIP or RAR folder first and adding the files later.

  1. Right-click within an empty space on your desktop, click New, and click the name of your compression program.
  2. A new ZIP or RAR file appears. You can rename this as you would with a normal folder.
  3. Drag the desired files into the newly created ZIP or RAR file.
  4. Click the Add button from the pop-up window, if applicable, to complete the process.

remove files at will. The main difference comes from the fact that you can attach a ZIP or RAR file to any area that accepts file attachments. There are several different programs that let you group documents into a ZIP or RAR folder. Similar programs function in the same way, although their interface might differ slightly.
