How do I create a ZIP file in order to attach multiple documents at once?
Question

How do I create a ZIP (compressed) file in order to attach multiple documents at once?

Answer

ZIP files are useful for compressing larger files when attachment size restrictions exist. The following are the two most common ways to group multiple files into one compressed ZIP file.

The first option is to select all of the desired files and add them to a new ZIP file.

  1. Organize the files on your desktop or within a folder.
  2. Select the files, then right-click to open the pull-down menu.
  3. Select your ZIP program, then click Add to ZIP File.
  4. Click the Add button from the pop-up window to complete the process.

The second option involves creating the ZIP folder first and adding the files later.

  1. Right-click within an empty space on your desktop, click New, and click the name of your zipping program.
  2. A new ZIP file appears. You can rename this as you would with a normal folder.
  3. Drag the desired files into the newly created ZIP file.
  4. Click the Add button from the pop-up window to complete the process.

The newly created ZIP file functions similarly to a normal folder; this includes the ability to add or remove files at will. The main difference comes from the fact that you can attach a ZIP file to any area that accepts file attachments.?

Additional Information

There are several different programs that let you group documents into a ZIP folder. Similar programs function in the same way, although their interface might differ slightly.
