How can I localize Flex Master Data?
Question

How can I translate master data to a specific language?

Answer

You can localize flex master data. The system creates export and import integration events that allow you to export flex master data fields and import localized content. You cannot export localized content.

To localize flex master data, export the data so you can see the format, create a file containing the localized version of the data, and import it into the system. You can localize only flex master data that is published, not in draft state.

To export flex master data:

  1. Log into the system > Administration.
  2. Click Site Manager > Data Import/Export. All of the available import and export tasks display.
  3. Click the Export tab.
  4. Scroll down the task list to find the Export Flex Master Data task, where [name] is the name of your flex master data template. You can also search for this task by entering a name in the Task Name box and clicking Search.
  5. Click Export for your flex master data.
The system generates a comma-separated value (CSV) export file and asks you to open it or save it on your computer.

The following listing shows an example of a flex master data CSV file generated by the system:

Hospital.csv:

UTF-8
UniqueName,Name,cus_City,cus_HMO
Hosp-1,Kaiser Permanente Hospital,San Jose,TRUE
Hosp-2,El Camino Hospital,Mountain View,FALSE
Hosp-3,Tri City Hospital,Tampa,FALSE
Hosp-4,Boston General Hospital,Boston,FALSE

To create the localized file:

  1. Rename the downloaded file by appending "Localized" to its name.
  2. Use a text editor to edit the file to add localized text. Localize the Name field and add a field that specifies the language. The following listings show a localized flex master data file that you would create and import:

    HospitalLocalized_de_DE.csv:

    Cp1252
    UniqueName,Name,Language
    Hosp-1,Kaiser Permanente Krankenhaus,German
    Hosp-2,Die Straße Krankenhaus,German
    Hosp-3,Drei Städte Krankenhaus,German
    Hosp-4,Boston Allgemeine Krankenhaus,German

The first line in the file specifies the character encoding. There are three columns:
    UniqueNameThe object's unique identifier.
    NameThe localized text.
LanguageThe language of the localized text. Use the language names that display when you import language files in Ariba Service Manager.
  3. In the Administration area, choose Site Manager > Data Import/Export. All of the available import and export tasks display.
  4. Scroll down the task list to find the Import Flex Master Data <name> Translations task, where <name> is the name of your flex master data. You can also search for this task by entering a name in the Task Name box and clicking Search.
  5. Click Import for your flex master data.
  6. Select the language for your file or select All if your file contains multiple languages.
  7. Click Browse, select your language file, and click Open. The system uploads your file and makes localizations available immediately.

When you import the language file, you can, optionally, select a language.

You can use one file for each language or mix multiple languages in the same file. To use one file for each language, create a CSV file and tag each line with the name of the language. To mix multiple languages in the same file, create a Microsoft Excel (XLS) file with a tab for each language and use the name of the language as the tab name.
