Question

What are Adapter Sources, and what functionality is seen with each available option?

Answer

The Adapter Source of an object specifies information about how the object is maintained and updated within Ariba. When creating certain objects in Ariba Administrator (from a user interface page, not by running a data import task), you can select from one of the following adapter source values:

ExternalThe object and all of its data fields are maintained in an external system, such as an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system or a set of comma-separated value (CSV) files. Objects with this AdapterSource can be overwritten or deleted when data is imported from the external system.
AribaManagedThe object is not maintained in an external system. Objects with this data source are maintained in Ariba Administrator.
(The default AdapterSource for system generated objects) These Objects are not impacted by Import events, unless included in the Import file. When an Object with an AdapterSource of AribaManaged is Imported, then its AdapterSource is then changed to External.
ManuallyMaintainedThe source of the object is an external system, but the object cannot be overwritten or deleted when data is imported from the external system.
PunchInFor the PunchIn feature (Ariba Procurement Content only), the source of the object is an external system (the PunchinGroup.csv); data is imported from the CSV file by the data import task for "Import Punchin Groups."
ReplicatedThe object is active in this site, but wasn't created this site. This data was created in the Parent site and then Replicated down to the Child site. This AdapterSource is available on in a Faderated Process Control (FPC) Parent/Child site relationship configuration. Data that has a Replicated AdapterSource is unable to updated in the Child site, and can only be updated in the Parent site.
SystemThe object was created by the Ariba System. This data is unable to be updated or changed, as it was created and is maintained by the Ariba System.
