How do I create an export-only report?

Resolution

When you see the Query Aborted page, or if you know the report will be too big to display, create an export-only report that runs without timing out.

To create an export-only report:

  1. When viewing the report output, after you run the report, select Actions > Configure Export.
  2. Select the format for the export: Excel Template or Comma-separated value (CSV) format.

Note: The Excel Template option is limited to Microsoft Internet Explorer users.
  3. Specify the data set you want to export:

    Data Set ChoiceDescription
Current pivot table contentsExport the entire set of data in the current pivot table.
CustomExport a custom data set. Click Export aggregate data to export aggregate data (such as amount fields), or click Export detail data to export details (such as document numbers or item descriptions). Then, select the data fields to include in the export-only report. Optionally, select specific hierarchy levels to export.
  4. Click Export Data, and save the report file to your computer.

Note: You must export the report once so that the site recognizes the selected export format when exporting it in the future.
  5. Click Done, then click Home.
  6. Select a folder in which to save the report, and click Save.

As a best practice, save the export-only report in a special folder or with a special name to denote its export-only designation.

To run an export-only report:

  1. Access an export-only report.
  2. Click the report name, and select Export.

You might need to refine report data to a smaller data set before configuring it for export. For example, you might refine the date range to one month or even one day to create the export-only report. After you configure the export, reset the report to the original parameters, save the changes, and run it as an export-only report.

The reports just could be exported in the Excel Template (.xlsx) or Comma-separated value (CSV) formats.
