Error: "Bad Excel Format Error" catalog upload
Symptom

When uploading a catalog file in Microsoft Excel format, I get a Bad Excel Format error. There is no other information to indicate what is wrong with the file.

Cause

One potential cause of this error is that the catalog header has an incorrect value for SUPPLIERID_DOMAIN. For example, the header might contain SUPPLIERID_DOMAIN: ANID instead of SUPPLIERID_DOMAIN: NetworkID.

Another possible cause is that the Supplier Part ID and Market Price columns contain formulas for some of the rows. For example, the Supplier Part ID column contains the formula =CONCATENATE(C15,'-Summer'), and the Unit Price column contains the formula =L42*2.

Resolution
  1. Make sure the SUPPLIERID_DOMAIN field in the catalog header contains the correct value.
  2. Ensure there are no rows in the file that begin with # in the Short Name column.
  3. For issues related to formulas, Check whether the value for one column is derived from another column using a formula, keep only the values in the cells, without formulas. For example, In excel if column X is based off a formula, you can remove the formula and keep only the values in that column by following the steps below:
    1. Highlight column X.
    2. Click Edit > Copy from the Excel menu.
    3. Click Edit > Paste Special.
    4. Choose the Values radio button to keep only the values and remove the formula.
    5. Perform the same step for each column which is derived with a formula.

Please also confirm the catalog file is not encrypted (no password set) and is not in Protected View. The same error will occur if these are enabled.
