Issue

Catalog item descriptions could only be displayed in sentence format. This made descriptions difficult to read and users skim over them.

Cause

Catalog item descriptions displayed in a sentence format alone. For products where paragraphs and formatting were required, the description displayed as a single block of multiple sentences.

Solution

We have added the functionality of formatting product descriptions using Hypertext Markup Language (HTML) formatting.

Now, we have the ability to display catalog descriptions in bullet format for more simplified reading. With this feature we provide the ability to format product descriptions across all catalog formats.

This feature is CF-5442
Supplier can provide catalogs with formatted text in item descriptions.
HTML formatting is supported:
- Line Breaks ( ).
- Paragraphs (Example paragraph.).
- Bulleted text (ordered or unordered) (ordered <ol><li>FirstNumber</li><li>SecondNumber</li></ol> or unordered <ul><li>FirstBullet</li><li>SecondBullet</li></ul>).
- Font – Bold or Italics (Bold or Italic).
Item Details page alone renders the formatted text.
Supported in all catalog formats – Catalog Information Format (CIF), Commerce eXtensible Markup Language (cXML) and standard for electronic data transfer by electronic catalogues created and published by the BME (Bundesverband Materialwirtschaft, Einkauf und Logistik e. V (Bmecat).
HTML tags are only used for displaying purposes and are not sent to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
