Guided buying now allows users to request items from inventory, which are items stocked by your organization, such as MRO (Maintenance, Repair, and Operations) items or items manufactured by your organization. Users see the available quantity of each item and can choose specific storage locations when ordering.
Currently buyers don’t have visibility to the stock in hand and without this insight new products are being ordered via requisition or sourcing process. In the process inventory ages out and inventory maintenance cost goes up because of stock build up.
Provide buyers with a catalog of items currently maintained in their inventory with the latest stock available for consumption and provide a simplified process of reserving the inventory items. In case of insufficient stock provide the option of procuring the item from suppliers.

SAP Ariba Procurement solutions must first be configured to support inventory reservations. For detailed information, see the topic "Reserving inventory items while creating purchase requisitions for SAP ERP-integrated sites".
The following SAP Ariba Procurement solutions tasks must be completed before you can enable this feature:
- Configure the SAP Ariba Cloud Integration Gateway to integrate catalog data from an SAP ERP to Ariba Network and to support checking the stock of inventory items and making reservations.
- Enable the following site configuration parameters:
- Application.Purchasing.EnableInventoryReservation
- Application.Catalog.IS.TenantConfig
- Application.Common.EnablePlantBasedDefaultingForSAP
- Run the following data import tasks:
- Import Plant to Purchase Organization Mapping data import task
- Import Plants Data data import task
- Import Storage Location data import task
The Inventory reservations functionality is available for only sites that are integrated with SAP ERPs.
Inventory items have the following restrictions and limitations:
- Inventory items display no supplier or cost.
- Users can cancel inventory items after ordering, but you can't change or edit them.
- Users can't add inventory items to a change request; if you search the catalog for items to add to a change request, guided buying doesn't display any inventory items.
